How do I book a trip?

You can simply call our scheduler at 937-547-1811.  GTS will provide you with a pickup time as close to your request as possible.  We will look at current appointments and drop-off locations and match your request with those already scheduled.

To increase our ability to serve you, there will be times when your trip will be combined with other already scheduled trips on the same vehicle.  In this manner, GTS can take more riders to where they want to go.

Your scheduler will work hard to schedule your trip; however, there may be times when we are unable to schedule your trips as conveniently as you may wish, in extreme cases, we may be unable to schedule your trip for that day or time.  To avoid this, please try to schedule your trips early.

Oversized wheelchairs, motorized wheelchairs and scooters create a unique problem in securement and safety and our drivers will do everything possible to secure them in a safe fashion.  Our lifts are designed with a weight capacity as well as a size capacity and we will only transport those that can safely be lifted on our vehicle lifts and safely secured.

What is a private contract?

GTS contracts with different organizations and agencies to provide transportation to their clients whose fare is paid by the organization.  Because private contracts are at fully allocated costs and are not subsidized, private contracts are guaranteed rides and are offered door to door service.  It is premium service at a premium price & help to meet local funding requirements.

Why do I have to pay the $1.00 per mile outside of city limits?

We schedule staff & drivers for city service.  When the driver has to leave the city for a county passenger, it leaves the city service without as many drivers. We do not recieve funding from the county to fund county service, and therefore must charge the city rate plus $1.00 per mile to pay for the ride.

How do we provide service?

Greenville Transit System (GTS) is a public transit system funded in part by the Federal Transit Administration, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the City of Greenville, and users like you.  Additional funding is provided by contracts with agencies to provide the transportation necessary to maintain their programs.  We provide City service with limited County service, utilizing a demand responsive transit system.

How does the Demand Responsive Transit System work?

Because Darke County is rural in nature, there is no need for a fixed route based transit system.  GTS is a demand responsive transit system within the City of Greenville.  We provide service with fully equipped vehicles that meet all Federal and State standards for accessibility, and cost effectiveness.
We provide service based on the demand for trips each day.  GTS responds with vehicles to meet the demand with the most cost effective scheduling we can achieve.  Because our service is based on demand, each day is different; each driver and vehicle may have a different area of the City and different clients to pickup and transport to their destination.

What is our Packages & Bags Policy?

Packages & bags are welcome on GTS however; they must be under the control of the passenger. The driver is under no obligation to assist in the loading or unloading of packages. Clients that require special assistance with their personal requirements may provide a personal care attendant to assist with personal special requirements. We suggest anyone with more shopping bags than can sit on their lap, use a personal shopping cart.
