How do I book a trip?

You can simply call our scheduler at 937-547-1811.  GTS will provide you with a pickup time as close to your request as possible.  We will look at current appointments and drop-off locations and match your request with those already scheduled.

To increase our ability to serve you, there will be times when your trip will be combined with other already scheduled trips on the same vehicle.  In this manner, GTS can take more riders to where they want to go.

Your scheduler will work hard to schedule your trip; however, there may be times when we are unable to schedule your trips as conveniently as you may wish, in extreme cases, we may be unable to schedule your trip for that day or time.  To avoid this, please try to schedule your trips early.

Why does the scheduler need my personal information?

Can the driver help me into my house?

GTS is a curb-to-curb service.  The transit driver will only provide assistance on and off the vehicle.  We will assist in the loading and unloading of the vehicles including wheelchairs, walkers, groceries, etc... But you will need to make arrangements if you need assistance to your door.  Drivers are never permitted into private homes.

What if I need assistance beyond the vehicle?

If you need the assistance of an aide, one may ride along at no additional charge; however care will be their responsibility except for loading and unloading.  Please inform the scheduler when you make your reservations if an aide will be traveling with you.  There is no escort service available.

Do I have to wear my seatbelt?

GTS requires everyone to wear seatbelts.  Drivers are trained in the 4 point wheelchair securement for standard wheelchairs.

What if my wheelchair is oversized or I use a scooter?

Oversized wheelchairs, motorized wheelchairs and scooters create a unique problem in securement and safety and our drivers will do everything possible to secure them in a safe fashion.  Our lifts are designed with a weight capacity as well as a size capacity and we will only transport those that can safely be lifted on our vehicle lifts and safely secured.

Can I request a sedan instead of a van?

At this time, Greenville Transit has 2 sedans,13 wheelchair accessible buses, and one mini van in our inventory.  Because we are transporting more and more wheelchairs and scooters, it is both inconvenient and uneconomical for drivers already out in buses to return to the station to pick up a sedan for a particular client.  Clients having trouble walking up the bus stairs can request to ride on the wheelchair lift.

What is a private contract?

GTS contracts with different organizations to provide transportation to their clients whose fare is paid by the organization.  Because private contracts are at fully allocated costs and are not subsidized, private contracts are guaranteed rides and are offered door to door service.  It is premium service at a premium price.

Why do I have to pay the $1.00 per mile outside of city limits when the county service is closed?

Weekends and evenings after 4:30 pm, we schedule drivers for city service only and staffing is at a minimum.  When the driver has to leave the city for a county passenger during those times, it leaves the city service without enough drivers.  We understand there are occasions when this is necessary, but try to minimize these occurrences as much as possible.

Why aren’t the county service hours the same as the city service hours?

Because we have such a large county, it takes more fuel and more time to run our service in the county then it does in the city.  Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to run the county service the same hours as the city.

How do we provide service?

Greenville Transit System (GTS) is a public transit system funded in part by the Federal Transit Administration, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the City of Greenville, Darke County Commissioners, and users like you.  Additional funding is provided by contracts with agencies to provide the transportation necessary to maintain their programs.  We provide curb to curb service to all county residents and visitors requiring transportation service within Darke County, utilizing a demand responsive transit system.

How does the Demand Responsive Transit System work?

Because Darke County is rural in nature, there is no need for a fixed route based transit system.  GTS is a demand responsive transit system within the County.  We provide service with fully equipped vehicles that meet all Federal and State standards for accessibility, and cost effectiveness.
We provide service based on the demand for trips each day.  GTS responses with vehicles to meet the demand with the most cost effective scheduling we can achieve, given the distances from one point in county to another.  Because our service is based on demand, each day is different; each driver and vehicle may have a different area of the County and different clients to pickup and transport to their destination.  We may go to the same locations within the County, but we pickup hundreds of riders from hundreds of different locations each day.
